I did a small experimental batch of coaxial connectors from telecom boards. 200grams of connectors in 100 mils nitric with 100 mils water.

Nice vigorous reaction. The resulting solution was bright pink. Can any one tell me what metal turned the nitric solution pink? There would have been trace amounts of hcl on the parts from a previous experiment.

The parts looked like gold plated aluminum, however there was minimal reaction with a 50/50 Hcl water mix. Some thing "cemented" to the gold plate.

It may be waste of money to dissolve this in nitric IMHO. Too much of mass to surface ratio.
They look like ideal candidates for reverse electroplating cell.
 
Yup I agree Patnor. I will run the cell tomorrow. I have a bunch of other stuff to do as well. Cheers. Any idea what made the solution pink?
