I see this subject was touched on before - but - I litteraly have thousands of sports cards with "Gold" trim and gold "leaf" on them - thousands of them - I am getting rid of them soon.

I also have e scrap parts ready for the refiner - I don't know of one in the Buffalo NY area - anyway I was wondering if its worth cutting the "gold" areas of the cards before I toss them. Have I said I have "thousands of them" -

Whats think consensus - I have nothing but time - OH and some scissors

Are they indeed gold leaf or something that just looks like gold? I would think a quick incineration and separation would be worth it if they are real gold leaf. But they would probably be worth more as collectors cards no?

I made the mistake of HCL + bleach on about a hundred gold trimmed sports cards... Without cutting or incinerating.

Duh, the are made of card board and suck up fluids like crazy.
After smashing out as much fluid as possible and rinsing several times; I did get a positive on the Stanus test and did see something after SMB. Something is a bit much as it looked like a mild dusting in the center of the glass.

I'd say if they are not worth anything, and most are not, then incinerate and add rinsed ash to a batch for refinning.

Buffalo is a tad far from Denver, Pa. but probably closer then anyone else.

my day job is in the printing business and we have done our fair share of sports cards. most likely what you see if called "gold" foil. you can get foil in a thousand colors. gold is not really gold and "foil" is not really foil it is all bacically plastic and pigments. very, very cheap.
