In steves video the Part II
Near the end of the video he has 2 buckets side by side
In one of them there is a metal and he says gold is precipitating
Is the metal stell or copper
 
The steel plate is added to precipitate the excess AP solution with no gold in it. This acts to precipitate copper from the solution preparing the solution for neutralization then disposal.
