Hi,

I got a cheap job lot of plated watch straps.

Each is embossed with 10/000 24k GP

Ive tried one in the cell and it took ages, nearly 20 mins to strip back to base metal.

The whole surface of the cell frothed over with a rich golden foam streaked with black.

My cell never did this before with other stuff ive stripped ,

Is there something wrong with the cell ?

Ok, so I added a little glycerin and this seems to have dampened to foaming problem. I think as the suphuric was reused from a previous cell it had become a little thick.

Also , I've never stripped stuff with plating as high quality as this before.

Sorry for being a no brainer, just worried about losing my gold..

I also have a load of rolled gold watchstraps, whats the best way for these, I have a batch of AP ready to go and also a batch of AR I am currently using to disolve a load of karat scrap, which was hammered out into thin sheets and is dissolving nicely.

The straps just have rolled gold upper shells which can easily be removed

Cheers

Rich
