is there a difference between gold types? Yellow and white persay... different refining methods etc? what about differences between the relative (white/ yellow) finished product?

You would refine white gold the same as yellow gold and the method depends on the material. The main difference between white and yellow is what the gold is alloyed with. Other members will be able to give you more specific information about the alloys should you require it.

This is a good one for Harold. I've heard him answer it before but can't find the post.

Gold alloys that do not contain silver can be processed directly with AR, with no need for inquartation and the preliminary acid process (nitric). White gold, for example, contains no silver. It's typically an alloy of gold and nickel, although it can be found alloyed with palladium. Newer alloys may be on the market now, that may be different. I haven't refined since the mid 90's, and I'm not aware of current processes.

I advise you treat all gold alloys the same way, so base metals can be eliminated prior to dissolving the gold. That way you're assured of a higher quality of precipitation.

When GSP publishes his book, that may no longer be true. He has a proprietary process that insures only the gold will precipitate, and may well become the source of the necessary reagent. Mean time, learn to inquart and process properly. You'll be glad you did if quality of your product is important to you. You can read all about it in Hoke's book.
