Hello all, my name is Dingo and I’m here for the doubloons! Hope all are making bank and gaining rank! I’m 44 years old, live in TN, I was an engineer for a local radio group in Nashville for 12 years and had my own media production company for several years after that. Covid took that all away. So I’ve slowly got back on my feet, still hungry though. So over the years I’ve accumulated lots of broke gear and dead electronics, including a metric ton of desktops, laptops, Ram, CPUs, to name a smidgen of the mess. Saw my brother trying to smelt some old jewelry and thought hey… I like money. So I am here to learn the best methods, not necessarily the right way, but the most efficient method to put some food on my table and some 0’s in my account. I appreciate all the help and advice I can get! So that’s about it! Just point me in the right direction and I will pay attention and hopefully pay some bills too! Thanks again D.Manhammer

Welcome.
This "hobby" is not quite as easy as you may believe.
Most of us do not make much money if at all.
And it is "hard" work.
Lots if studies.
But if you make it past the initial hardship it is quite rewarding, not neccessary moneywise though.

And to warn you there is only one way and that is the right way.
There are sometimes more than one "right" way though.

We put safety and proper treatment of our waste as our highest priorities.

Considering you already have a collection of old computers and e-waste, your first step will be dis-assembly to get down to the components holding the values. Usually the steel and aluminum and the box fans have value and can be sold off for quick cash. You will end up with a collection of circuit boards and component parts which you can sort by what they are. When you have a list of what you have you can get help here deciding which is the low hanging fruit to allow you to learn some techniques and recover some of the PM's contained. As you progress to more and more difficult to process material you will acquire the skills to do more broad based refining.

It is not a quick process but using information posted here on the forum and searching the library you will gain the knowledge to build your own equipment to do this safely and how to do it in an environmentally friendly way.

Welcome to the forum
