Hi all,

I've put the word out for a local Toll Refiner to provide myself and a bunch of scrappers in Australia a refining service.

Mostly for RAM, CPU's, E-Prom's, IC's, trimmed fingers, Gold Pins and possibly silver mylars.

What I'd like to know is what charges to expect?
I'm assuming the best way would be to make payment with what is recovered.

So would the cut be 50/50? 60/40? 70/30?
what is considered a fair cut for the refiner to make it worthwhile for them and enticing enough for people to want to use the refiner?

Are all items similar in labour for the refiner? like some pins have little gold, other heavy gold, does it make any difference?

Thanks.

Most refiners charge a lot processing fee and per pound fee (so they're guaranteed to be paid). A percentage split is usually more for companies trying to partner with clients/suppliers, as it ties the refiner with risk on market conditions and risk on the material's quality.

the last time i paid someone, they charged me 22% of the total from the amount recovered.

it is also 100% up to you to know what your total recovered amounts will be. if you are going in blind or thinking there is "one gram of gold per ceramic cpu"
you will not be happy with the person you choose to recover for you, paying for a sample assay is a good idea, or doing one yourself if you are able to.

and if you choose someone that pays $100.00 for a gallon of nitric acid the prices will be higher then someone that pays $10.00 per gallon.

best thing is: spend 2 years reading (if needed) & studying this forum, perform the acquaintance tests in C.M. Hokes book, listen to the big wigs here and do not try your own way to recover there are people here that are sharing 40 years of there personal & professional experience with you for free. do not shoot yourself in the foot, save up your items until your ready, doing small tests along the way.

you can not get any better then free :!:
and most of all make sure you say thank you to everyone that has assisted you in your recovery evolution.

I use to try and always give my clients the best payout i could on low grade materials, but with gold being so low in this market i would have to charge such a high rate for toll refining that the customer would feel like i was making all the money which is just not true.

When i ran electronics with gold at nearly $2,000 oz i charged.

Fingers 10%
Pins 20-25%
Cpu's 25% -40%

Now ????
Fingers 15%
Pins 25-40%
Cpu's 50-60%

ok thanks, I think I have an idea of what to expect now.

I have no intention of refining myself, perhaps in retirement as a fun hobby but certainly not for the volumes we are dealing with.
I'm very interested in the refining process and it's much easier for me to learn as a fun hobby then to have to rely on my output to make a living.
for a start i'm as clumsy as they come, it would be almost suicidal for me to be messing with chem's I have no understanding of, lol.

So with RAM, would it be safe to assume 30% for complete sticks? or is it best to cut fingers and get the 15% rate and look to process the board at another stage?

What i'm looking for is a refiner that has taken it a bit further then hobby level or is prepared to take it to a much higher level.
Certainly nothing a new refiner with a couple years experience would be able to handle.
Initially they will have to demonstrate a proven method of extraction along with an ethical and certified means of disposal.

Basically we have a great opportunity available for someone that is interested in processing high volumes on a regular basis.
How that begins depends on the refiner but their process, equipment and standards need to be transparent as I'm a registered e-waste recycler,
I can have the EPA arrive for inspection at any time and they can follow the chain of how I handle product, right down to the refiner.
Here, if you mess up with EPA regulations they string you up by the googlies big time, not worth taking shortcuts that's for sure.

We have strange laws here in Australia where you can't be a recycler receiving e-waste and a refiner on the same property.
My limits in processing is only to prepare e-waste for refining, like stripping down electronics and separating metals and components to be sent off and processed, most so called e-waste refiners here are transfer stations who send their product to Asia for refining.

We want a beautiful partnership where both the refiner and suppliers are happy, that may take some tweaking, it may even involve us financing a better system for them initially so at the and of the day, recyclers and the refiner are dong well out of it.

Thanks again for the replies

you are not looking for a toll refiner.

you are looking for a smelter. you should have added this info in your first post.

No I know of a smelter and they certainly don't process cpu's etc, no I need a refiner.
I'm also quite comfortable in how I construct my posts, thanks anyway
