Hi All. I found this forum after watching a guy on YouTube recovering from scrap jewellery, old computer ram and am huge amount of gold plated nails. Totally fascinating and I have a workshop sitting there in the garden doing nothing. I'm looking forward to learning as much as possible about the processes involved and If I can find any sources for any old gold I am going to give it a go. Thanks.

Aside from a few refiners on YouTube, most of those video's are not the best to emulate....mainly for the safety aspect. I'm not saying there isn't some good info, but they usually have some questionable lab practices.

Also, they very rarely address dealing with the toxic waste that they produce. Thankfully you can find everything here.

Welcome in...

Hi rasg,

Welcome!

Depending what you have seen on YouTube, keep calm and prepare yourself for your new hobby.

There are a few really good guys making videos about refining on YouTube (some of them are members of this group).

BUT: There's a lot of BS on YouTube!

Don't start without proper knowledge of the different materials (karat gold, gold filled, plated, base metals,…), chemistry and safety equipment.

Some stuff or accidents may kill you for a lifetime.
