I have reviewed Steve's Gold Filled DVD a few times, and I was just wondering if I could use Acid Peroxide instead of Nitric Acid while following the same procedures?

Would it work?

Fragum,

I have used AP to successfully dissolve gold filled items, but it takes a very long time.

The test I performed involved a small piece of gold filled scrap which I cut into 1 cm sized pieces using heavy duty diagonal cutters. The gold foil floated free after about 3 weeks in the beaker. I maintained the color of the AP as a light transparent emerald green the entire time.

I think the biggest problem with using AP for GF scrap is the silver content in the karat gold foil.

I recently reviewed the original plans for my sulfuric cell and the plans make mention of processing GF scrap in the cell. I haven't tried this but it may be a great alternative to using nitric if you don't want to make your own nitric.

If you haven't tried my nitirc recipie, you should, it's very easy and makes very strong nitirc if you follow the recipie to a 'T'.

Hello I'm Not expert

But I have tried AP for Filled and RGP

It does work But takes forever and with RGP you end up filtering alot of junk out If your not able to Digest it all.

The Nitric works much better on RGP and filled over silver items
But is still Not my preferance to date.

Personaly I use my Cell for the filled and RGP items
This is the type of scrap I process the most of.

A word of caution  Filled or RGP over silver will leave you with some issue of silver in your cell.
You have got to run the fines through a Acid solution and drop the gold out to solve that>
DO NOT > Melt your fines directly from the cell > you will end up with silver beads :(
you get much cleaner Gold in the end if you refine it a second time with Acid.

I know it's not suggested to be done that way > But the cell does work.
I do mostly Filled and RGP items

(I would be making Nitric three times a week to digest it with Nitric Acid)

With the Cell, once I it get over 240 deg it works pretty fast and I can keep using it over and over day after day.
I get very little base metals in my filtering to deal with and
Per (Steves) suggestion I run it through HLC-CL and drop the gold back out to clean it up.

My Beads come out very clean and have No discoloring to them.

I will say it's a pain in the rear and I have to watch the amps and bubbles to have a clue when it's pretty much done,
I do alot of larger items that bring the amps way up!

I am looking into the salt water / KT type cell for this type of scrap.

Just My Novice Two cents
Jim
