Greetings forum members!

My name is Bill and I just wanted to introduce myself to the forum. I live in the heart of Silicon Valley, CA and, as an IT consultant, have a great number of connections in the semiconductor and manufacturing industries. Over the years I have had the opportunity to encounter a vast quantity of gold bearing items. With the spike in gold prices came the light bulb! I'm tired of seeing other people making the money that I should be making. So I've decided to explore the possibility of recovering and refining that gold for myself. God only knows how much gold that I've thrown away over the years...

This will be my last post for awhile as I can see I have MUCH to learn. I appreciate all the time and effort expended by the members to produce and maintain this wealth of information. I look forward to future interactions and hope that I might at some point be able to contribute something of interest to this site.

Sincerely,
Bill

Thanks Eric! Since I tend to have much better access than most, as well as a lengthy, solid business relationship with most of the prominent surplus businesses in the area, once I get this process down it should be rather profitable. As a matter of fact, I have an opportunity to purchase some microwave communications waveguides and components today. I have been told that that is the best type of goldscrap to obtain. I guess that would depend on how much they want for it.

Noob alert: What is NOS an acronym for?

Thanks again,
Bill

NOS = New Old Stock - items that are new and have never been used, but which are often old and/or obsolete.

Here are a few links to help you along on your journey. Read EVERYTHING in the Safety section of the forum, especially the Dealing with Waste topic. No amount of precious metal is worth jeopardizing your health or the health of those around you.

Follow the Guided Tour created by LazerSteve. It will provide an introduction to the forum and numerous valuable links including the General Reactions List. Be sure to follow the link to his web site as he has many outstanding videos, a collection of great reference documents, and he sells a lot of the supplies needed to get started including detailed instructional DVDs. Samuel-a also has a lot of videos, guides and tutorials at his web site Gold-N-Scrap.

Download C. M. Hoke's book. You'll find links to both screen readable and printer friendly versions in my signature line below. You'll see her book mentioned repeatedly here on the forum for good reason. It is probably the best book ever written for the beginner who wants to learn refining. It is written in layman's terms and will provide a solid foundation that will help you understand everything you read here on the forum. You'll also find a tremendous amount of information in the two Forum Handbooks compiled by aflacglobal, Forum Handbook Vol 1 and Forum Handbook Vol 2.

Good luck,
Dave

Thanks guys! Then the answer is yes. There is quite literally tons of NOS that I encounter regularly.around here it seems sometimes that companies tend to throw away almost as much as they sell.not so much anymore, but during the dot com boom it was incredible! The dumpster divers around here we're driving Cadillacs! its not like that anymore that is unless you know where to look. Nudge, nudge. Wink, wink.

Also, thanks Dave! I've already begun my travel down that guided tour road. I'm someone known to be a little crazy, but at 49 years old I still have all of my limbs appendages and senses (the wife would certainly care to argue that point). A few scars, but you haven't lived if you don't have those.
