It has been two months since I discovered this forum, and I must admit I get more fascinated the more I read the topics in this forum.

A special thanks must be conveyed to Noxx, gold silver pro, Harold, lou, oz, barren realms 007, chumbawamba, palladium, 4 metals and many more contributors ( apology for not able to remember many more) for their valuable contributions, not forgetting Juan Manuel for his humour and outright objection for legality and patent rights( Just kidding).

Of course, you ve had couple of bad apples, for their negative remarks and making personal attacks on other forum members.

It is no small feat to have 11,000 plus members and I sincerely wish that this forum would attract many more members.

In theory wise, I have gathered enough knowledge technically to start refining activity (thanks to my wife too, she is a chemist, which makes things much easier for me). I am now in the midst of preparing a profit loss projection before deciding into the venture.

In my country 1 kg of 486 scrap processors costs about USD 172. I have discovered from the forum that this should yield about 7 gms of gold which could be sold at USD 220. Looks like a small margin taking into account cost of chemicals. Perhaps, I should look at other precious metals as well before making my conclusion.

Finally, a very special thanks to lazersteve who has dedicated his mind and soul for the benefit of many forum readers. Keep up the good work.

Regards, Justin, Malaysia

Justin hi and welcome to the only place to be for free and invaluable advice and perhaps the best knowledge base on the planet for refining and precious metal recovery. Your looking to enter the refining business by processing e scrap perhaps the most difficult and least rewarding area of all precious metal refining sources, most members advice is to source your e scrap for free or very cheaply if you wish to make it worth the time and effort to recover the gold, look for sources of old systems not just cpus or fingers as then you get other sources of income and the obvious gold becomes your profit, there are posts covering the break up values of boards frames plastics etc. My personal advice would be to look at carat gold scrap or gold filled where you can easily extract the values by following the late great C.M.Hoke who gives you a step by step method to recover all the values and the costs are relatively low compared to the values recovered and the time and effort are far less. I wish you luck and success in your new venture but do your research before jumping in,process a small amount of e scrap and also some carat or gold filled and see what you think is the way to go.

I particularly respect the fact that you were a member who read for 2 months before posting. Nothing is as annoying as a new member who jumps right in and either asks what has been asked many times before and then, perhaps because he or she didn't like the answer never returns. You have shown respect for the good information that is freely shared here and I appreciate that.
You also have good taste for marrying a chemist!

Welcome, Justin,

Way back in the mid-70s, I made 6 or 8 trips to K.L. and Penang scrounging electronic scrap from manufacturers and enjoyed myself immensely. Beautiful country and terrific people.
