I keep running into it... usually in plated watch faces. It breaks with a good twist, and seems to have a grainy structure, yet Shiny silver colour when its cut. This is the dust, which again reacts violently with just a drip if hcl?

I was told by a wise individual here that it might be zinc

It can be many alloys, but usually most casting alloys contain much Zinc and Aluminum to facilitate low temperature and good flow with acceptable strength. They are slightly brittle though.
