I have never seen a white Refining Precious Metal Waste before.

It was printed in 1940, all the C. M. Hoke Refining Precious Metal Waste books I have seen have been grey in color like this:

Here is the one I came across, and am very curious to know about, if anyone knows anything about this could you please post the information on this thread?

Thanks for posting the pictures...

I didn't know there were any light grey color either. What does yours say on the inside cover where the copyright and printing information is?

Scott

The same as yours, and further down says; "Printed In The United States Of America"

And on bottom of that page;
Press Of
Braunworth & Co. Inc.
Builders Of Books
Bridgeport. Conn.

It actually has a stamp in the front that says;
Property Of New Rochelle Public Schools No. 1
It is a pretty nice copy for an old school library book.

I have Edmund M. Wise titled Gold Recovery, Properties and Applications that has a stamp on the inside from the Michigan State Library. I bought if off a "friends of public library" site. You can find some excellent books that are out of print that libraries are liquidating due to the fact that nobody checks them out anymore. It's in perfect condition and still has the jacket. Nice find by the way.

I have many books from both public libraries, and corporate libraries as well. If they are still readable the ex- library markings don't bother me, as the books usually sell for less. I usually try to upgrade any books that are water marked or in bad shape.

I have to get my library together and post a current list and some pictures.
Here is a list of the books I had on Wed Apr 18, 2007, I have added quite a bit since then;

I can't even think about how many pdf books I have as well.

Now THAT is one heck of a library. Very nice. I'm envious.

I only have 14 books that pertain to chemistry or recovering/refining precious metals. But I am slowly collecting them as money and opportunity afford.

Great collection, Jimdoc. I would be very interested in your updated list.

I have about 4.5 gigs (820 files) of books, articles, etc., that I have downloaded over the years. One of these years, I'll make a torrent for this.

One of them I got on your recent recommendation;
-Small Scale Refining Of Jewelers Wastes - Roland Loewen
And one I picked up after seeing it in your library reminded me about it;
-Palladium Recovery, Properties and Uses - Edmund M. Wise

Some of the newer additions in my collection since that 2007 list are;
-The Chemistry Of Platinum And Palladium - F.R Hartley
-The Analytical Chemistry Of The Noble Metals - F.E. Beamish
-Platinum Group Metals And Compounds - Advances In Chemistry Series 98
-De Re Metallica
-Advanced Inorganic Chemistry - Cotton And Wilkinson
-Noble Metal Thermocouples - H. E. Bennett
-Platinum In The Glass Industry - H. Moore

Most of my newer books are on the non precious metals and chemistry;
Aluminum, Beryllium, Cobalt, Copper, Lead, Hafnium, Indium, Niobium, Rhenium, Tantalum, Tungsten, Vanadium, Rare Earth Elements, Refractory Metals and Alloys, and some other chemistry books.
Also have at least 13 IPMI books. I still have to get them all together to make a better list, and maybe post some of my doubles for sale or trade.

A lot I haven't tried to get since I have in PDFs, although I would still like to have the physical book if I can find them for the right price.

Edit to add some of the others I missed;
-The Metallic Elements - R.V. Parish
-A Manual For The Chemical Analysis Of Metals - Dulski
-The Handy Book For Manufactures - Handy and Harmon
-Analytical Chemistry Of Ruthenium - Avtokratova
-The Chemistry Of Technetium And Rhenium - Peacock
-Homogeneous Catalysis with Compounds Of Rhodium And Iridium - Ronald S. Dickson

Those are physical books in my library, I haven't seen any of those in pdf.

i have great intrest in that 4.5GB :p

let us know when "one of these years (days)" is here

I was in downtown Branson, MO over the weekend. In a flea market, I found the old (1926) classic 2 volume (1400 page) "Handbook of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy", by Liddell, in excellent condition, for $10 each. I remember reading these 25 years ago and felt lucky to find them. Mostly mining but there are 2 chapters in Vol. 2 that pertain to Au and Ag recovery and refining.

Nice find!

I received my Hoke book, it's everything the guy said it was, and more, there were a few newspaper clippings it came with, one dated 1960 about a new process that yields crystals of metal.

It was published in the United States by the Metallurgical Publishing Co. Doesn't seem to be anything particularly special about it, printed in 1940. I am happy that I got an original copy however, and for a crazy low price.
