Hi all, I’m an early 50’s, underground miner who has taken a liking to finding gold on old stock piles and sluicing. I have built a small jaw crusher and ball mill ,smelting furnaces, and cupeling furnace and have tried many ways to get a fairly pure gold without success. I am currently looking into ar. Some videos make it look simple, some forums make it difficult. Just want to sell 24k gold.last ar attempt produced 47 grams of 22k. Losing money at this rate. Looking forward to reading your posts and picking some brains. Thanks for having me.

I use an acid test for rough home knowledge. Places I sell have used acid, an electric little probe type machine and some sort of displacement and weight contraption. I have only been processing a few years so I havnt found a way to get actual results at home. Have seen a gun that gives pinpoint results. I think they called it IR gun but not certain of that and it was very spendy.
The only thing an acid test will tell is approximately how much Gold is in the alloy.
If there are Silver, which is likely, there is a chance some will follow but not that much.
You will need to study some more to get it right, on the other hand the Gold may be quite clean since these acid test are not very reliable.
Take your nuggets to a pawn shop to see if they can XRF test them before refining, then take it back after refining and see what the purity is.
