Adding Nitric

I'm sure the answer is here somewhere but i couldn't find it. I'm at the adding nitric stage to gold foils in HCl. I don't want to make the previous mistake of adding too much nitric. So far I've added 2 ml of nitric to 200ml of HCl with close to 5 grams of foils. How long should I wait to see if the foils begin dissolving? Or should I have started with more nitric?

Plenty HCl I think, and the Gold alone needs between 1-2 ml per gram so you are on a good track ,but it needs heating to 70 +- to be most effective.
You can safely go straight to 5ml and then adjust from there.
