Welcome to us.
This question is what "ALL" of us would like to know ;)
Gold is where you find it, pawn shops, thrift shops, flea markets or E-bay.

What are you going to do with it?
Resell or refine?

Refine. I'm Buying Karat, not Plated or filled.
Ok then I want you to study what I give you here.

We ask our new members to do 3 things.
1. Read C.M. Hokes book on refining jewelers scrap, it gives an easy introduction to the most important chemistry regarding refining.
It is free here on the forum: Screen Readable Copy of Hoke's Book
2. Then read the safety section of the forum: Safety
3. And then read about "Dealing with waste" in the forum: Dealing with Waste

Good luck, it will be a challenge. Store gold buyers will have a volume buyer who should pay 95/96% of market value, if you can pay more than that, you’ll get plenty.
Refining is not cheap, or quick, so I can’t see the point most times in refining karat gold.
Bullion buyers are looking for and will pay premiums for certain products, eagles, Kr, maples and pandas. Generic mint bars don’t have much of a premium at these prices. It’s a challenge to sell a home made bar or bead.
