    Waste disposal questions

Does the water get broken down to form the Cupric Chloride so basically does not dissolve the HCL? I guess not since it's CuCl2 so no H or O goes to make it. So does the water get used up the next time you use the AP? Can the reaction use the O?

Aqua regia process post sulfuric stripping

Ok thank you I have some High concentration old 35% Hydrogen Peroxide so I'll give it a go It will be easier to handle the off gas as I haven't yet built a scrubber. I am guessing that there may still be some solids after doing it so I will save the residue and put it through the AR process later.

    Silver from AP

I am new to refining. I have a friend that does it and I wanted to learn. I have a lot of gold plated telecom boards. I ran a few of the through AP solution after I cleaned the boards of components. T he AP solution did a great job clearing the gold and silver. My friend says to put the filter...

    Please I need your advise/help!

...Patience is a virtue. And you save on HNO3! I think it could go as far as 30 grams if you take it slow and covered well. (not airtight) Study AP while you wait. It's the recommended process for gold fingers, unless you live in a county where nitric is dirt cheap. If you're in a hurry and...

Help with potential profits of RAM scrap

You have obviously not read or studied what we have given you. It has been said over and over again that there is NO need of Peroxide for the AP (Cupric Chloride) leach. The oxygen from the air bubbler is plenty enough.

My Plan - New to Refining. I would love a review please.

I am so sorry! I meant HCL. H2O2 is to create the AP (i understand just a bottle cap first to start it. breaking down how I got this copper. 1. Manual desolder all board material and wire ends (flat white wire with assumed silver) my target material was only copper/assumed small amount of...

    Need info on this material

I soak the chips in AP w/ a bubbler , after a week I check to see. If the legs are still on them. Burn / pyrolyze them. Until they are white , crush them up well , Then separate magnetic parts, classify or screen it . Gravity seperate with water The sludge I have leached in HCL and bleach...

    Curiousity, Silver capped contacts.

easier to dissolve in dilute nitric acid. The contacts dissolve, there is no base

...an air pump for a while now, about half of them are off. I recovered a first batch of them by switching buckets, rinsing with water and using a paper filter to catch the foils, it worked pretty well. The water I used turned blue and I neutralized it with baking soda, so now I have a blue...

Were those gold filled glasses and did the AP leave them intact?

    Is my HCl dissolving gold?

AP not work well with magnetic pins,I have a telecom type board that has only gold pins connectors never striped using AP, also lot of recyclers use AR directly with pcb that has gold tracks like cell phone board, always AP decrease the gold recovery rate, lost of gold is much more than the cost...

    Need Help Refining Small Ring

As the op is a jeweller and probably has access to rolls couldn’t he add copper to his alloy then roll it very thin and then use AP which is easy for most to make ?

    Curiousity, Silver capped contacts.

...Ascorbic and citric were the same stuff???? Thank you. Me dummy some/many times. I have my torch and removed many contacts and these ones were so small to grab on to and I thought they would be easy enough to remove base metals. So I should use HCL Peroxide (AP)? for copper. And HCL for steel?

Incinerated laptop mousepads- have I burned off the gold?

...or mobile phone PCBs- gold plated over copper on a PCB. In future I'll try some other method to get the glue off and then they should work fine in AP. Then I just add the foils to my jar to refine all together at a later date. I don't worry about yields, I just wait until it looks like i've...

Just a Newbie thirsty for knowledge

If you use a perforated bucket that sits in the AP solution bucket, you can wash the material free of the released gold foils by simply raising the perforated bucket out of the solution. Tweezers work great to get all material out that has given up its precious metals, and to inspect if they...

Colloidal gold in waste solution? How to get it out?

Not very likely in an AP leach. But there may be any other colloids from other metals including Tin.

For Sale ~15lbs of gold plated pins.

Allow your CuCl2 to fully settle, then decant the clear solution from the majority, temove the upper most volume, this way you filter a smaller volume of the solution. I once filtered two five gallon buckets of AP and hope to never do it again.

    AP Colour Question

Did these brown sands come from AP? or after precipitating with SMB? I feel you are mixing up a recovery process (AP) with a refining process (HCl + H2O2), partially due to the confusing Acid Peroxide misconceptions of H2O2 use as a starter for AP or to oxidize the AP to aid faster conversion...

    Strange reaction...

Lots of imitation Au jewelry has been sold, by foreigners claiming to need money for gas. Stamped 14 and 18 K. Always put it in a little Nitric, or Ap, before adding to known alloys.

Gold fingers turning dark during HCl solder removal...

This always happens to me when I use HCL to remove solder, it is just some bit of metal cementing onto the gold. If you take a tiny bit of dilute nitric and wash the surface, your gold is still perfectly fine. However, I would suggest next time you just clip any residual solder from fingers and...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

...I let end of the bubbler tube slip back up inside the PVC pipe it resulted in acid being pumped up the tube and out of the top onto my hand. Now perhaps if I cut a hole in the side of the tube halfway up I could make a crude airlift pump in the same fashion. Maybe I will experiment with this...

Step by step instructions for AP processing circuit boards

...collected are now cleaned by adding fresh HCl and dissolve that CuCl1, then collect the sludge for processing. The real trick is setting up the '"AP" bucket to speed the process. The way I use it, there is a loss of volume more than usual so adding a little extra HCl is often needed to aid...

...is slow to dissolve. But I am thinking it will work. Slow. EDIT: It is HCL Bleach. Don't know reaction of copper. But HCL needs bubbling air like AP solution. The chlorine made from the bleach gets used up thats why you have to keep adding it. Also when heated even by the sun drives...

    Question about gold plated pins

I have 2 kilograms of assorted cut pins from 1980's telecom boards that I plan to put in my AP bucket. I have two questions: 1) Should I seperate the magnetic pins from the non-magnetic pins prior to AP? Most pins are non-magnetic, but some are strongly magnetic (iron?) and some are mildly...

    time necessary to dissolve e-scrap

For a kilo it can be done in 2 weeks if you start with used AP solution, if you start with new hydrochloric acid it may take longer but the aquarium bubbler will speed it up. I also use low heat and it helps as well

Aqua regia process post sulfuric stripping

Thanks Shark yes I am having trouble explaining myself properly. I do have a better understanding now. I am starting to think these boards are indeed ENIG plated so I will just keep it really simple until I understand more. I certainly don't expect so much anymore. I have about 50 of these...

Three nines possible with Poor Man’s solutions?

...I read in a Reddit thread that neither poor man’s nitric or poor man’s AR should be used when the goal is to refine to three nines or higher. Is this true? What do these methods leave behind that won’t refine out? I personally was planning on poor man’s nitric for some things and AP for...
