Hi, I purchased this furnace on eBay, when I received it I realized it is too big for what I’m doing.
It’s a 10kg model, I could make do with the 4kg model.
To return is cost prohibitive. I paid $303 USD with taxes and shipping.
My mistake of course. It looks well made and has not been used.
I can let it go for $250.
I’m in Sth FL, zip code 33062.
I’d rather not ship, let me know if your interested.

I don't know if you refine Silver or not but they rate these furnaces by the number of kilograms of gold they can hold full to the top. Silver takes about 2 times the volume of Gold so if you were using this for Silver and pouring 100 oz bars or anodes of sterling you will need about 7 kilo's of it's capacity.

The furnace is capable of melting with smaller crucibles so it can accommodate smaller melts.

I just don't want you to sell this now and realize in a year or 2 you need more capacity.

Thank you 4M, I might keep it. I did a lot of research on here and it was by far the best model available and seems very well made, just a lot bigger than I imagined.

I was never a big fan of the alumina silicate wool they line these with. I suggest you measure the ID of the new furnace and buy a sonitube concrete form of the same diameter. When the wool insulation breaks down you can remove the wool and cut a section of the sonitube to hold the inside dimensions when you fill the cavity with a cast able refractory cement. When the cement sets, lighting the furnace will burn the cardboard sonitube off nicely with the first firing. Don't forget to use a short length of toilet paper cardboard roll for the burner to pass through the cast able.

This furnace can last a long time and will serve you well.

They include a bag of rigidizer powder that you mix and apply to the wool insulation before first use, does that count for anything?
It helps to keep the fibers together but does little to help it strength wise. It mainly keeps it from becoming air born dust as it it becomes more fragile. The more it is used the more the fibers break down.

When the silica wool starts to break down it is pushing silica particles into the air column. This is why I do not like alumina silicate wool. Whenever I am involved with a refinery build, the melt furnaces are always in a good exhaust hood and part of the reason is to get any silica out of the area where the workers can inhale it. Silicosis is serious and deadly.

When the wool starts to get friable pull it out (wear a dust mask) and replace it with cast-able refractory.
