Color?
The bottle was labled smb cause i had put
Way to much in
I am testing all solutions before stockpot

Apparently it was AuCl2 of some concentration
Or o wouldn't have put smb in it

Can some one verify color. Blue or maybe purple
Thanks" steyr223 Rob

Thank you

After testing wih stannous about 15 min
Of adding bleach/hcl most of my mystery
Powders had redeposited to the bottom

As i said i added to much smb so i this is
Probaly what it is
But at least there is some au in solution.

The powders just didn!t look right and now
I realize why ,it is what sand would. look
Like
My au agglomerates this doesnt

Thanks steyr223
Kkmonte you just won 10 more years of answering
My questions

Nice, thanks! :) Hey it's a great way to learn! maybe in 10 years of answering questions i'll be as good as butcher!

And too much SMB can give a false positive on the stannous, right?

Yes but isnt that brown
Wait why would it be called a false positive
If it's brown it would have to be purple
Da.
And again .why the heck after reading that
Litterly thousands of times does my brain
Think differently

This was a different purple a much lighter
But more constant than any i have seen

All the tests i have done have always been
Darker purple to black even when very
Faint if that makes sense

Thanks steyr223 rob

ive had stannous test that looked black and test that had to sit for an hour to see any color. a false positive (for gold) is normally brown. it can be caused by copper or excess SMB. if the solution is already black from dissolved base metal, dilute a sample with clean hcl until it is clear enough to see a color change.stannous chloride is very sensitive to gold and will detect minute quantities.

Cool thanks geo
I have some solution from my first batch
Of 100 chips that i evaperated down from
4000 ml to 500ml and it black i will try
What you said

Question does the smb ever go away other
Than iincineration
And why false positive. With brown
I never understood that
When i see purple its positive not brown
Unless i am missing something here brown
Is negative!.,...ok after seeing what i wrote

Brown can have gold but not show purple
Wouldn't that be called a false negative
Sorry
Thanks steyr223 rob

the brown false positive fools most beginners that see it the first time. its a subtle difference between a week positive and a week false positive. the SMB will decompose into SO2 gas and sodium chloride (salt) so salt is the main byproduct once all the gas has been evolved. it would take one of our chemist to explain the reaction that causes the brown stain from SMB but the brown stain from copper is metallic copper. perhaps the SO2 precipitates elemental copper to make the brown stain.

Thanks geo
Im sure this will not happen again
(putting To much smb in trying to consume to much
Nitric)

i was just curios as i have salts forming
After evaporating my Ar which i put to much smb
In ,and i think there is also my brown powders
Mixed in
so i need to seperate.

Thanks steyr223 rob
