excuse me, first picture has the gold in it, otherwise you can probably pick these up for free. small components and a little gold

First blurry photo at the top is a variable capacitor used for tuning the center frequency of the radios oscillator.

The tiny flat head screws are brass.

Here's a clearer photo:

I don't think you will find much in the way of precious metals in one.

And here's a vintage version of an air gap tuning capacitor, the fins from military ones are silver plated.

Rusty,

For all I know all of these types of capacitors may have silver plated plates, but I do not know for sure.

hey steve, your right that one looks just like mine, but mine is white. and the brass screws held down some half moon shape thingys and the little plate underneith those that were connected to a male connector were gold. had never seen one before but my test kit confirmed it. but im still new to testing also.

I found the same thing in an old radio as well. Some of the fins were gold plated while most of them were what I assumed to be aluminum

Sorry ...but in those picture is a 3 USD(made in china) device.....
beside 30 grams of copper from the transformer, coil of the motor, and AM coil.....no PM....

EDIT:

P.S.: You will have to "train" your eyes harder to make difference between gold plated items and brass.......and a drop of HCl helps......brass tends to become red(more like copper)...because the alloyed materials are dissolved by HCl.
