I have received PM's asking to open this thread up for commentary. I am hesitant to do that because it will likely end up with lots of comments like wow or super cool and even a few decent questions. Anyway, the thread would get very long in time and it would be difficult to find specific questions and responses in a long thread. (Not unlike what has happened to the overall forum).

Instead it would be better, and easier to locate in the future, if you started a thread named with the brief description linked to the video you want to discuss. This way the title would actually represent the topic, which makes future searches much easier, and a useful discussion could ensue.

I know we cannot please everybody, but I feel this approach will prove to be the most useful.

Wow, it didn't take long for that PM to pop up!

A suggestion has been made, which I consider decent, which is for me, or any moderator so inclined, to link discussions we feel valid to specific videos in this thread to this thread which can direct conversations by an active link to an active thread on each specific video topic.

To be honest, while there are many useful videos out there which can be interesting and informative, I haven't seen many apart from Sreetips where there isn't something I feel they're doing wrong. Sometimes glaring mistakes, sometimes just bad practice such as heating gold-bearing solution for an SMB drop, sometimes wasteful or uneconomical processes like melting electronic scrap into a blob and then dumping it in nitric(!)... sometimes just basic safety hazards like not wearing gloves... Even Sreetips makes occasional errors but he almost always catches himself and explains what he did wrong. For that reason his are the only videos I would refer others to.

I often come across ideas and tips in videos which prompt me to do research, but so far I haven't changed my basic procedure much, I keep it as simple as possible with minimal risk and minimal expense. I still watch lots of videos, but with a critical eye as to what I would do differently, and of course to see the drop and weigh-in.

Edit to add: this is a pretty good video about making Stannous Chloride, I like his approach of making very small amounts at a time: QL58h4RzS0M

I went to the website listed in the beginning of the video posted and sent an email to request permission for us to post his video's. If he responds and gives permission I will begin to look at his library of video's and post them as I have posted video's from sreetips. In the interim, I have disabled the video link you posted.
Thank you

It would be good if he gives permission, he has quite a few videos and he's one of the better video creators out there, he is quite knowledgable and explains well, and doesn't make many of the cringe moments I mentioned above. I wouldn't be surprised if he is already a member here.
In future I will send such links to you by private message rather than posting in a comment.

About the only other Youtube videographer I can recommend, is Jason with MBMM. His videos on smelting would be good for the miner population on the forum. His videos are good, but not great, from a scientific chemistry point of view (IE, analyzing ore to come up with a specific flux recipe for various ores).

Owltech is also a good one.

I have started this thread for comments on the video thread. HERE This is not for comments on any specific video just comments about the video library. Comments can include suggestions for additional video's to add or any ideas to improve the way the library is organized.

If you want to comment about a specific video, you are welcomed to start a thread with a title defining the video you wish to talk about and add comments specific to that video there to start a discussion. Once these discussions develop, I will link them to the video in question and future comments can follow the link to your discussion.
