I have dropped the gold out of the auric chloride solution and I have siphoned off the solution leaving the brown gold in the bottom of the jar. What is the next step before melting? Best way to dry the gold into a powder and best way to get the powder out of the jar?

Or should I wash the gold powder while it is in the jar? Before dissolving the gold foils I did wash them three times in HCL before filtering.

Thanks for all the help!!

Rinse the gold powder with water if you choose, then give it a series of HCl washes and water rinses, along with one wash with ammonium hydroxide.

Do not remove the gold from the beaker until it has been through these processes and force dried. If you have done your work well, the gold will be very clean and will clump up, making it easier to handle. There is NO need to use a filter once gold chloride has been filtered---all that does is cause you to tie up some of your values in the filter medium.

If you'd like to read a process I recommend, here's the link.
