I recently picked up 26 lbs of CPU's and BGA's for $5.00/lb
5lbs. of CPU's and 21lbs. BGA's
Within the CPU lot there are 4 of the huge Intel Pentium Pro CPU's.

Did I get took or not?

That depends on what the other 4 pounds or so of CPUs are.
The four pentium pros weigh about 3 ounces each and should
sell for $12+ on ebay. That's a good start. 8)

Thanks GC...

The other CPU's are a mix of old ceramic and newer fiberglass. I spied a couple of the CYRIX C86 chips in there, some AMD's with the top heatsink that covers the whole surface of the CPU, Intel pentiums.

I guess an accurate inventory would probably give a better idea that just a guess. My bad. I will do a full inventory tonight with the results forthcoming tomorrow.

Question. On the BGA's...before grinding them, should I remove the plastic top piece? I have noticed that there are minute traces of gold plate on those that I have removed from Mboards before. Perhaps what I think is plastic may be graphite....

I am looking forward to the extraction process...gee this stuff is fun.

BGA = ball grid array
this is a method of implementing a device on to a surface, not a type of processor.

could you show us what do you mean by BGA's?
if it's what i think your talking about you have there much more gold per lb then the cpu's...

Mr. Samuel,

What I mean by BGA's are the North and South bridges, as I have seen them called, on the motherboard. They are attached using a BGA and not the pin configuration. I have @21 lbs of those that I purchased along with the 5 lbs of CPU's.

Glory Cloud and others,
Here is my list of all the CPU's that I purchased.

Intel Pentium Pro: 4
Intel Dx4: 1
Intel 486: 4
Intel pentium w/ Au plated heat sink: 2
Intel Pentium: 11
Intel Pentium III: 13
Intel Pentium 4: 12
Intel Celeron: 12
AMD K6-2: 9
AMD Duron: 1
AMD Athlon: 3
Cyrix C486: 1
Cyrix 686: 2
A4: 1
Unknown make: 2

If my math is right that makes a total of 78 CPU's @ $5.00 per lb. x 5 lbs.
So I spent $0.32 per chip.
Did I do good, or did I sucker myself?

Thanks

Sounds like you got a pretty nice deal on that lot

Thanks Gentlemen,
By reading the linked posts, the lid is ceramic and where almost all of the gold is located. So, the ceramics should be ground and processed, while it is possible for the fiber chip to be soaked in AP.

Thanks so much, I feel good about my purchase now.
