Just today I got rid of two 'dish pack' (18" x 18" x 30") boxes full of what I call 'low grade' (brown) and 'mid grade' (green with too many transformers, power stuff, etc.) boards to a guy that comes over and buys copper wire and such from me. (he doesn't pay as much for the wire as the scrap yard, but I don't have to take it to them, saving me gas and time, and he also brings back all the gold end connectors the next time he comes back - free labor on cutting them off, too!) He's got a buddy that lost the use of his legs in the military but can still use his hands, so my guy is always looking for 'projects' that his friend can do.
I've given him CD Rom and hard drives to work (they bring me the boards and the magnets and keep the rest of the scrap for their effort) as well.
Anyway, I gave him the brown board stuff - he'll find some transformers, coils, etc. and maybe some aluminum, etc. - about 75 lbs worth (around $11.25 if I took it to a scrap yard) - no biggie to give it to him as he's often bringing me a sandwich (he found out I like Arby's - when I can catch my wife not looking.... - and about every third trip he brings me one...), plus he's going through all the 'mid grade' and taking off the bulky stuff - which will bring many of the boards into a good 'peripheral' or perhaps 'fingerless pci' range - some maybe even higher (but not likely...).
It is a great trade-off for me as he gets to help his buddy and I get rid of 'hard work' stuff, while getting free labor (and the occasional sandwich!) for the cleaned boards, ends and magnets.
Always look for ways to lower your workload, and free up your time so you can do more profitable work (or, just REST!), while offering something that others can benefit from as well!
