Cat recycling is a process that can be done in stages. I have set up a few refiners to do the de-canning followed by ball milling followed by sampling and assaying. At that point they have a homogeneous powder and they know what is in it.
At this point there is a fork in the road, you can go the chemistry route or you can opt to ship to Europe to a plasma arc furnace to have it refined. It is tough to compete with the arc furnace prices when you consider chemicals and waste.
