I have searched for this information and have not been able to find maybe someone
out there with more experience can help. My question is when scrap cat collectors
gather a quantity of catalytic converters together and ship to a refiner how do they
separate them, I know there are many categories for grading do they separate by
foreign and domestic and others? I have read on this forum that some ball mill or
grind and then assay for a record for themselves before shipping as this seems like
the wise thing to do. But if you simply mixed them all together it would appear you
would be at the mercy of the refiner. And mixing higher quality with low quality cats
together would defeat your purpose.

Since most refiners require a minimum of 500 cats or so I would think not to many
different lots are shipped.

Thanks, in advance for any comments

The best way to do what you're trying to do is to de-can all of the converters, crush and sift the catalyst, and ship it to a refiner where you can witness the blend and sample. Then you have your sample assayed and exchange assays with the refiner to settle.

Thanks guys, I know it is a tough business!

and 4metals, your suggestions seem like the method to follow.
