I recently bought cell plans on ebay.I used pure sulphuric acid with glycerin. The parts stripped fine. The instructions said to strain black gold with coffee filter. I let dry for couple of days. When I tried to melt all I got was a lump of tar like material.Anyone had this problem? Thanks

I haven’t used cells but if it took days to dry you had a fair amount of liquid and maybe you over estimated the gold there and ended up torching mainly glycerin.

For others that have cell experience you will probably need to give them more details before they can help you. Like what is your solution made with and how much of each, what were you trying to deplate and how much of it etc.

The values that are recovered from a stripping cell should be further processed. It's easiest when they are still finely divided as they are from the cell. Melting them isn't a good idea at all unless you don't care about the quality of the gold that results.

The stripping cell is a RECOVERY process, it should not be misconstrued as a refining process.

You can learn more about refining the waste by reading Hoke's book, or do some research here on the forum for tips on what to do. Incineration is a good idea, as is a boil in nitric acid after it has been incinerated.

It would then be dissolved, filtered, precipitated and washed properly.
