what do y'all think about The Clean Shot brand for sulfuric cell? I heard on here it may have some inhibitors, what will that do during deplating? will it make my life harder for recovery? thanks!

You may get better answers if you post a little more information concerning your question, like A MSDS sheet or what these inhibitors are...

I could not find the MSDS in a short search for the sulfuric acid, it looks to be 93% H2SO4.
I did find this.

One shot drain opener.

Caution using the above sulfuric acid could lead to extremely dangerous situations.

Note this shows the ingredient as caustic soda

Clean Shot is made by Theochem Laboratories. A list of the MSDS on their products can be found at

I did not see the sheet for the sulfuric based drain opener, one of the reasons I didn't use it. It has a deep red tint to it as well. If you do try it, be sure what you get is sulfuric and not the sodium hydroxide version, they have both, but may have discontinued the acid base.

I have had better luck at the smaller hardware shops. ACE and the like. We have a local owned shop here, that got the Rooto for me, and I have used the Liquid Fire with no problems. I was pretty aggravated with One Shot, which was the easiest to get here. I did have a home use for it, so it wasn't a complete waste when I bought it.

If you have trouble finding a suitable supply, you can also make a mostly pure sulfuric by getting battery acid at the auto parts store and boiling off the water.

And by boiling I DO NOT mean a full roaring boil, just a low simmer until it stops steaming.

Battery acid is 35% sulfuric, 65% water, water boils at 212F, sulfuric at 700F or so. This will let you evaporate off the water to concentrate the acid.

Just be careful with it, hot acid is not to be taken lightly. And do under a fume hood or outdoors, well ventilated, per all the normal safety precautions.

In my opinion if you can possibly get concentrated sulphuric easily whatever the price buy it.
Concentrated sulphuric acid is nasty so hot concentrated is dangerous.
I know costs are critical for many home refiners but certain things aren't worth the risks and concentrating sulphuric is one of them, if your careful when using your cell the acid lasts a long time so long as you cover your cell when not in use and you don't put wet items into your cell. Hopefully when you come to empty your cell the accumulated values should easily cover a new bottle if needed and use the discarded acid for other processes.

I would only try to concentrate it if I had no other choice. Then I would be extra careful. The thing here is I can buy the concentrated stuff like Rooto or Liquid Fire cheaper per quart than I can get battery type acid. Other options are useful to know also.

As nickvc said it is better to buy it then, to concentrate it down. The SO3 fumes are extremely dangerous. I would not advise it. Do a search for SO3 or sulfur trioxide and read up on it.
