It has been discussed in the forum about the surface mount capacitors (MLCC's) containing silver and palladium and that on the newer circuit boards they have changed the composition to nickel replacing the palladium and possibly the silver. Does anyone know which of the more recent board types are using these cheaper capacitors? Is it a good bet the Chinese motherboards are using these?

I did a little work on the internet and found an IEEE article discussing Base Metal Surface Mount Capacitors replacing precious metal ones. It was dated 1992. The base metals were copper and nickel.
