Hi. Wondering if anyone could be of assistance?
I have been having a few problems with the printable version of Hoke's book, as in it wont print. For many hours I have tried to produce a copy using two different printers and all I get is the pictures, no text.
Don't know if it's a problem with my pc or the two printers but other documents print fine.
So, could someone produce a copy and ship it to me?
I will obviously pay a fair price for the time taken, material costs and shipping if someone could give me a quote for their services?
Reading massive amounts of text on a screen is frustrating and also limits where and when I can study the book, so if anyone can help I live in Co-Durham UK.
Many thanks, Longboat.

Longboat,

Sorry to hear you're having problems getting it to print. I know Todd (Meanie) had some problems with it when he saved the file in a format other than pdf format. His problem was opposite of yours, but could that be the problem for you? Here's a link to his post: http://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=17706#p183885. Try downloading the file again and be sure to save it as a pdf file and see if that helps.

I'd be happy to print you a copy, but shipping would be ridiculous.

Can we get a Moderator to move this to the thread in the Books section? It might help someone else in the future if they have a similar problem.

Thanks Dave.
I checked the file type and it is a PDF document. Re-loaded it and the same thing happens, the strange thing is though it makes all the right noises and appears to be printing and then spits out a blank page?
As I stated before, other documents print ok so I am well and truly stumped.
After reading the link you kindly posted it seems only a small minority have had temporary problems, which have been easily fixed. Maybe I will use a friends equipment and see if that helps. Will keep you posted.
Thanks for your help.

Lee.

When you open the file, how do the pages look? Do you see both text and pictures, or just the pictures that print?

It does seem very odd. The whole idea behind the pdf format is that it's supposed to be portable, so it should look the same regardless of your computer hardware or operating system, and it should print just the same as it looks. I guess the next thing that comes to my mind would be the pdf reader you're using. Is it the Adobe reader, or a different program? If you open other pdf documents, do they print correctly for you?

One other thought is that I just recently had a printing problem myself. I tried to print some pages from both a Word file and a pdf file, and all I got was blank pages. I ended up having to shut down the computer and then restart it. Once I had restarted it, all the documents printed correctly.

I don't know if any of that will help. If not, I hope one of our members on that side of the pond will be able to help by printing a copy for you.

Still don't know what the problem was but I now have a full copy of the book.
Saved the document to a flash drive and loaded it on a friends computer, it printed as normal.
As a bonus I collected a binding machine from freecycle last week so it will soon be wrapped up ready to study in the smallest room in the house.
