The silvery squares on the top of CPUs. Do they have gold in them? And how do they compare to the ram sticks with the silvery ram? I just watched a video where a guy ashes 40 green fiber CPUs and got .13 g but he didn’t include the silvery square at the top. I’ve melted some ic chips that have them in it and seen gold wires come if off them. Is there none in the green fiber boards?

Attaching a photo would really help here. We don’t know if you’re talking about a ceramic chip with a side brazed silver-colored steel cap?, or if you’re actually looking at the back side of the silicon die on a flip chip? I would suspect you’re talking about a flip chip, which has very little recoverable gold content.

If you are talking about the BGA "flip chips", Boardsort is buying them at $2 Lbs as of today.

I agree with macfixer01...little to no gold in those.

I broke one open just to see what their made of and found a good size bead of gold. About the size of a pen head. I would think that’s worth messing with. Also, couldn’t you remove the silver in them?

Ya the silver squares on top of the green fiber chips.

Most of the Gold in Chips and ICs is in the bonding wires, these Chips do not have bonding wires so it has very little.
The small square is a silicone die and have no value inside.
There is very little Silver if any in modern chips ICs.

I've come across quite a few bga tops with gold "flashing" on the inside, not sure if its flashing or plating but i do know that it flakes off whole in AP solution, definitely worth processing in my opinion, then i melted all the tops down after getting the gold and got about 10 punds of "dirty copper" as well. The ones that had gold on the underside were very visible so you'll know right away if you should throw it into the AP solution or the furnace.
