You probably would do better with one of these;

Or the ones that Steve sells.

Kobe,

Those porcelain crucibles are very susceptible to thermal shock and not a good choice for oxy/act torch melting.

You'll need a tan or white colored melting dish to do the job properly. The tan ones don't last as long as the silica white ones, but they are cheaper than the white ones.

Since you already have the gold foils recovered now, you are only a few steps away from refining the gold properly using HCl-Cl or AR. If you melt them now, you will end up with impure gold that will most likely end up with a disappointing gold button crusted over with a black layer.

This is also a great opportunity for you to learn the fine art of refining your gold to high purity. Trust me once you make some really pure gold, you'll never be happy with the crusty stuff ever again.

Hate to say it but you totally wasted your money. You really can't melt in one of those porcelain crucibles. They are fragile and break easily. Buy a melting dish if you're using a torch.

Steve is right. At this point, it is easy to purify the foils. Do that before you think about melting anything.

And you can get crucibles from Steve too. I purchased few and still using them. They are worth every cent.
