Found this beauty in my pile of ceramic chips and I was very surprised when I pulled the top off! I thought I would show it to you all. I've never come across anything quite like it. I wish I could have taken a better picture. I can see all the little gold wires (hairs) that connect to all the different chips. Plus it looks like the little red caps ars soldered on with gold. I know that can't be correct, but I can't think of why they would gold plate after solder. I would do some testing but now after seeing how cool this thing looks I don't think that I can get myself to mess it up. I'll probably just add it to my collection of cool looking electronics.

I would be interested in data on PM content if anyone has some, though. Thank you.

I'm going to try and get a better picture when I get out of work tomorrow morning. Because this picture really doesn't do it justice. I'll also take pictures of my little collection of chips that I just can't get myself to destroy.

Thank you for enjoying the photos!

Let's see the lid....

I should have taken a picture before I took the lid off, but unfortunately I did not and have already disposed of the lid. It was silver in color and had blue letters on it that stated what it was. It is a ceramic chip with gold plated leads.

I'm trying to find the charger for my good camera so I can take some better pictures to post, sorry for the delay.

I would investigate the lid connection to the box a bit. If it is a gold alloy solder you have a bit more of a jack pot. (or should i say a lot more). Relatively speaking. Gold solder "could" triple or quadruple the gold content. I hope it is gold solder!

Sorry it took so long to post these. My other camera didn't do a good job showing detail either. So I rigged a zoom lens up to my cell phone and this is what I got. You can see the caps with what looks like gold solder and the hundreds of gold wires. Not bad pictures for a rigged up set up though.

I am guessing these are old, you can actually see the circuits on the dies, plus the bonding is cool, I agree I would put it for display, unless you had a ton of them then keep one out. your make shift microscope did pretty good to me.
