Hey all. Could you give me an idea of what you pay for DMG? My local supplier quoted 285 dollars plus tax for 500 grams. 4 to 6 weeks for delivery paid up front. Seems Crazy to me.

I think I read that Patnor sells it on his feebay account. I haven't looked yet, though.
Please correct me if I have the wrong information.

I have ordered a testing solution of DMG palladium and nickel testing solution, for less than eight dollars shipped to your door, he also combines shipping cost so if you need silver testing solution or something else the cost is less.

You can check his Ebay sale or check his posts maybe he has a link.

It should be noted that DMG is NOT used to test platinum, as the subject matter implies. You'd be well served to change the title of the thread so it appears when one does a (proper) search.

If you wish to have it changed and can't access now, please let me know and I'll do it. I left if on the slight chance that you may have had a reason to mention platinum, although I expect that's not the case.

Thanks Harold. I was in error, I was doing a bunch of research and posted the question hours later from my blackberry and I crossed up what chemicals for PT and PD and their uses. Its a dyslexia thing. I will get back to my notes and try to clarify what I am after later if I do not find it in Hoke. ( My home printed copy is getting kind of tattered) I think I need a new one. :)

That price for DMG is still CRAZY. I will look at Pats site.

You could try Ebay, you don't need that much for testing;

Here a few links about availability and pricing for DMG. I found them, entering the search terms "dimethylglyoxime 100 g" and/or "dimethylglyoxime 500 g" in Google.

DMG is a small volume specialty-chemical, mostly used for analytical purposes. It is not produced easily. It's synthesis is described in "Organic Synthesis", a useful collection of various organic synthesis-prescriptions, somewhere else cited in this forum. The following link leads to the corresponding preparation of DMG, which clearly shows, that it definitely is not apted for hobby-users to be produced at home in a garage or cellar-kitchen-lab.
