Is there a U.K. or Europe Platinum specialist available.
I am in need of a good offer on silver cell slime and Ammonium hexachloroplatinate.
There are a number of company's who are offering what I would consider refining rates on what I consider to be near finished metal.
If any one has an interest please drop me a P.M.
regards
Justin

Hi Justin, I don't know of anybody who would take your slimes but I would turn your Pt (salts) into metallic powder, I think you would a better chance of selling a Pt powder than salts.
Easy to do but be careful of temperature and them nasty white fumes, as you will know Pt as a very high melting point and most don't have the equipment to melt but you could send it off for either melt assay or just an assay.
Calcination (calcining) dishes are a bit expensive but worth it.
Just out of interest have you tried the sodium formate process for Ag, I use this method and get very good results, you can obtain 999+ if done correctly. Sri.

I have looked at the different methods for calcination of salts to Platinum and the best option seems to be the tube furnace with a hydrogen atmosphere.
Quite a quick job with the right kit and can turn quite nasty with out, a vacuum furnace and pouring system would be nice as well.
I have a good route for my Au but the main stumbling blocks for achieving the same thing with Pt are two rather expensive bit's of kit.
I know it is possible to stumble through but with luck some one will have the facility in place and have openings for more material.
I barley get out of the house as it is with the work i have ongoing ,so passing on a demanding final step to some one else would be a help until I source my own kit for the right price.
I have not tried sodium formate extraction of silver .just been stockpiling my crystal as the price is so low,it is a cheep way to satisfy my hoarding instinct with out braking the bank.So I may try running that stock in that manner.
I had to sell my first Au bar which was gutting (i tried to save it for posterity)if only I could afford to hold on to the rest of my metals

I understand what you are saying about calcination and the equipment needed but that would be a full process to a Pt bar, have you seen lazer steve's dvd on calcination? it shows the process but using Pd but is the same for Pt and I know the dangers with pgm salts.

Me personally would use the calcination process and have the melt assay done, it's not that expensive, you would get back a nice bar with the assay results to show when selling.

What type of material are you using to obtain your Pt and are you only going so far with the process to separate the pgm's?

The sodium formate process is very fast, a lot faster than a cell but there are few things to know about this process to obtain good results, like if there are any pgm's contained in the solution to start with, its better to cement with Cu and then process the Ag through the formate process as the formate will precipitate pgm's.

You will never get a high percentage payout on PGMs due to the complexity and difficulty in refining it to the needed purities the material is sold in. I reckon the best you will get is around 90% of spot unless you have serious quantities that could interest the big players. Unlike gold and silver where there are many capable refiners the big boys name the price because they can
If you have enough you could speak to Lou and see if you get a better deal but if your material comes from where I suspect the answer is likely to be no.
