One of the first things I did when I started recovery of metals was this pile of fiber chips.

I removed the pins with A/P.

Made this from it.

And now I am ready to do the bones. Here are some photos of the incinerated fiber chips. They look a lot like fiber glass. Many layers. Some have a copper layer. There must be a bit of gold in there somewhere!

I am trying a modified plattners method as posted by James 122964. http://goldrefiningforum.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=7938&hilit=thiosulfate+leaching

I will let you all know how it goes.

Gooey mess. LOTS of white filtrate, uggg. Will do something definitive with it today.

The residue of which you speak is great feed for a furnace. Glass remnants are dissolved with soda ash and become a part of the slag, as will the bulk of oxides that were created by incineration. If you have means to melt, that's a great way to recover trace values, assuming you can keep the slag fluid (fluorspar thins slag) and have some kind of collector to insure the melted values do not remain as suspended prills.

The one negative is that such an operation is very aggressive in destroying crucibles or furnace lining.

I wish I had a furnace. These were cooked at 850 f. I know it is not hot enough to do the job properly. I tried an experiment with them to see if I could make any progress. Although the experiment is not done yet, it does not look promising. I was hoping to get something done with this mess today a family emergency koshed that idea. maybe tomorrow I will have something to report.

850 F should be enough. You would just need to leave them in for a while.Of course buy that new furnace from me and all of your problems are solved! Just kidding,I know it would never make the trip.
