Usually yes,but not the screws, they are usually just brass(vintage),or stainless(modern).

Yes,with the exception of any gold that was "worn" off from use. However I do not recognize the pile at the very bottom,in the middle.

oh, i just realized you were talking about the loose pile at the bottom! Those are miscellaneous springs and pieces, all stamped 1/10 12k GF.

those temple pieces i was referring to, are those 5% also?

The pile in the middle on the bottom looks like arms that have been snipped. From my experience, when the pads, platic, and lenses have been removed about half the weight of the glasses is material that can be refined. Therefore I think our original numbers were too high.

I say this because of the way arms on these glasses are made. From where the rims of the glasses meet the arms to somewere around where the bend in the arm begins is solid metal. The bend in the arms that hold the frames onto your ears is actually made up of very fine strands of gold filled metal. These strands, usually 3 to 4, wrap around underlying metal. Therefore the total weight of this lot is actually not 5%. You would have to remove the metal from the arms' bends to get a true weight. Seeing that pile of snipped arms reminded me of this.

I collect anything i run across in daily life that may contain gold or have gold in it. I mean anything, its my addiction. lol
It's amazing how much you can find on an average day if your just aware and looking for it. Some items are unique and strange. One of the items in my Quote : Collection is a gold plated fish hook that came from a opening cermony and was attached to the front of a Bass Pro Shop. It's in my storage somewhere but if i can find it i will take a pic. The thing is big enough to catch jaws. lol
