Fume Trap

Has anyone tried using the fume trap for using nitric acid in Hoke’s book on page 42? I want to use nitric acid but I plan on doing it outside. I was also thinking of using a small fan to more quickly disperse the fumes away from my direction.

I usually use a bottle with a lid. This way i can control fumes and open it in the fresh air for some time to let fumes go.The gap can also be adjusted so i can control the amount of fumes.

This is not exactly what i use cause the entrance should be wider but it is the best photo i've found.

Thanks for the reply. I guess your just corking the reaction. But with the Hoke picture the water actually absorbs the deadly fumes.

Has anyone tried to use her method?

Try adding H2O2.

It has been discussed elsewhere on the forum.
