in this batch o cards 50 or60 i found about a dozen that seem to be gold plated under the green varnish. am i dreaming or have they made sound cards like that

Hi Callicom , hows tricks ?
Hope your well!
Sounds like you might have a nice little score there , I have a few that are all gold plated under the green (or brown some of them) mask , nice work! 8)
All the best with them and kind regards ,
Chris

There is a video on Steve's site that demonstrates the process of removing the solder mask.

thanks kuma, so i wasn`t dreaming  i saw a lot of exposed gold on the cards, even under the screws holding the metal plate on the front of the card. so i done scratch test and i could tell it wasn`t the usual pinkish looking copper but anice gold yellow :!:
i saw the video on steves site to strip the green mask but silkscreening being my work i have polythinner at my shop so i want to see if that will strip it off, this stuff just might do it, i`ll let you know if it works claudie, thank for the input y`all

I have tried many different chemicals on them. So far none have worked other than what Steve shows. I do want to try the CPVC/PVC pipe cleaner, I have a strong hunch that stuff will take it off, I just haven't got any to try it yet.

It is very possible that you have plug in cards that have gold plated traces. The plating is the same thickness as the plating on the fingers, which unfortunately is not very much. However it will add up if you have enough of them.Be careful when using Steve's method, that you do not use an excessive amount of hydroxide,or allow the cards to soak too long, the solution will strip the some/all of the gold if you are not careful.

well after soaking the cards in polythinner for 4 days, zip :!: i would of soaked it in water i would of got the same result
