If you read my post from earlier this week you saw I bought 210 lbs of jewelry. There was a baggy filled with these parts. I have an electronic gold tester. I tested a couple of the bigger pieces and they tested 22KT and over. I then filed a spot and it tested as junk. So that tells me gold plated. I tested a couple of tiny pieces and they tested as junk. I am assuming if the plating is thin or any bare metal is touched it will read junk.

So I need some opinions based on your experience. I think I will list on feeBay soon.

1) Do all these look like gold plated electrical contacts?

2) Any idea on what to call this piece before it was torn down?

3) Any idea of gold value? (weight is just over 100 gr)

Well, it looks to me that it's all gold plated. As far as gold content, the smaller the pieces, the more area has to be plated by weight. One pound of pins will have more gold than a one pound cube of solid metal with the same plating thickness. You can assume that the pins have 30 microinches of gold plating thickness because it is a contact point which receives excess wear. A large object is normally (but not always) used for RF shielding. Rf shielding doesn't receive the same kind of wear so it is much thinner. One of our plating experts can help with that and maybe help with the value.
