Because why should
I have never figured out why you are always trying to push this book the hole idea is to ask for help and advice
Why should anyone have to waste time writing what is already written? The real question here is, why are some people so lazy? Why can't folks do their own THOROUGH research, BEFORE asking for help. This is a forum, not the hobbiest gold refining help desk.

Hmm. I think there is something strange here..... Aah I found it.
It should be "When I was younger and immortal" right?
We are still young, until we are not :):ROFLMAO:
HAHA You know, straight translated during thinking in Swedish and writing in google translate, it could be a little strange ;) Almost schizo haha
I have changed that phrase now. Thanks Yggdrasil

Thank you for the warm welcome.

Yes, that was my plan initially, to read and get some info, then share my plan here for double checking everything and only then move to the actual work.

I haven't gotten anything to work with yet, my idea is to first get the equipment and waste management in order, and only then move to buying chemicals and scrap. Or do you believe I should get as much scrap as I can right now, just to have it handy? Is it a commodity whose supply will be going away very quickly?

As a hobbyist, buying and stock piling jewelers scrap? Yes, collect it.
E-waste, no. No profit to be made there. unless you can buy true electronic gems for copper scrap prices or scrap them yourself from e-waste base metals that you sell once separated.

This has to be the most enjoyable thread I have read in a long time. For reference, I have and copy of her original tome. It was actually photographed and printed out on 8" x 12" photograph paper. I have found it to be invaluable. Ms Hoke's book is a primmer not a bible. Keep up the excellent work, Admins!

I normally refrain from derogatory comments, but some are so worthy of derision that I occasionally speak out. This is one of those.
Have fun trying to figure out why I'm this special - Atlantean descendent?
Nah, just a schmuck right?

I think it's time to go back to the hardline approach to trolls guys, if somebody doesnt have anything constructive to provide here and insists on tying members time up with drivel that they are not prepared to substantiate or discuss without ego and mockery then what use are they here other than an annoyance for those that are here to learn, help or share?

Cheers Wal

Welcome Back after your week time out Mr. "the one and only truth"

Have you ever researched ethics?

Seems you have not learned from your chance to self reflect.

I vote to nominate you for trolling of the month award!! If not a permanent ban.

Do you, besides the spreading of hate and disinfo, personal attacks, conspiracy theories, have anything positive to contribute to this wonderful forum full off good people who respect each others opinions and beliefs?

Only a severe mentally disabled person could think that we are trying to sell a book that's free... did you see any price in Dave's signature? Or a Pay-pal link?

Stop this. Please?

"Can I close your ticket sir?" :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:
Because we pay for a membership...
And perhaps the ones who crawled out of poverty wanna see who is worthy to donate to..

I'm assuming the pictures are of XRF results.
After scrutinising the results given it's possible these sets of results have the standard issue with "Iridium" readings ... Given that the material is mainly Lead and that Arsenic may have remained in the alloy if it was smelted from ore at a lower temp due to what would be a relatively low melting point if there was no Iridium actually present.
My thoughts are that the XRF result is inaccurate.
That much Iridium would make the alloy very difficult to sandcast into the item pictured.
Just a thought

Can Arsenic be in an alloy with Lead?
It makes sense though since it seems shot in Precious Metal mode.
Additionally it will also account for the decreased SG.
It makes more sense that way.

I have contacted the other Moderators to see if we need to step up these things.

If lead is used as a collector at a low temp then yes, it's possible.
It's also possible with direct smelting from some ores that haven't been roasted. It takes time at a hot enough temp to volatize off completely.

Reddit metallurgy suggested that strange object might be a lead-bismuth alloy:

Bismuth might get misinterpreted in an XRF, since an XRF in precious metals mode isn't looking for bismuth, and the bismuth La1 line is 10.84 keV, very close to the iridium Lb1 line at 10.71 keV.

Bismuth's property of expanding when it freezes makes the alloy barely change size as it freezes, allowing sharp castings with minimal equipment, and so is common for art projects.

Lead-bismuth eutectic has a nice low melting point around 125 C, and if that's the alloy it should be only a little harder than lead and you should be able to shave off a small sliver with a knife.

I guess that make more sense than Lead-Arsenic alloy

Cool, that's handy info.
I'm sure there are more potential inaccuracies or potential mistakes with XRF readings that could be useful to know for people here.
I have a question, is there anything that can be confused on an XRF with Osmium?

Cheers Wal
