Have gone from car collecting to old chip collecting I guess.

I thought these 2 chips were spectacular with the window and the ultra-fine wires running from the transistors.

Not sure of vintage

Wanted to share .. Enjoy

The "7949" code at the bottom indicates 1979. Those would appear to be 16K EPROM chips. Programmable ROM.

I don't quite get the "chip collecting" mania, but that's just me. If such a fetish actually exists, those would be good candidates as the chips are socketed. (vs soldered in)

If you pull them out of their sockets, transfer them right away to an anti-static environment if you are going to try to sell them as working items. That could be wrapping them in aluminum foil or better, a chip-tube which is how they come/came from the mfr. Also, the ideal time to do this is on a humid (vs NOT on a dry, staticky) day. Best, just leave them in the board until the moment when you are ready to do something with them.

Great Info again. Thank You. I'm just capturing items that I find visually appealing and that represent industrial manufacturing trends of the time. If they are worth money someday .. great .. but for now, they go into display cases as "art" so to speak.

They are Texas Instraments Eproms (erasable programmable read only memory). They are worth about $4 each as a collectable, that is more than the gold value. If you intend on selling them do not wrap them in aluminum foil. The best material is soft foam, but NOT polystyrene. And do not let tape touch them, and make sur eyou do not bend any legs.
