I've been lurking for a couple of weeks. Read Hoke. Assembled my MSDS sheets on my computer. Made a spreadsheet for chemical/tool shopping. Have hopes of building a "brake drum forge" for melting. Been scrapping appliances and computers for about a month. Having been an electrician, I'm a little prejudiced toward copper...but, the keyword "been" means I no longer have access to large quantities except by stripping motors and the like. This forum has lots and lots of great information and I'm going to read and re-read until I feel comfortable. I've already learned a great deal.

Great to be here! Sounds like a lot of fun.

Welcome Okie,
I like copper also, it is very useful in recovery of precious metals, sometimes I feel like I should be in the copper bussiness, because it seems to be more of what I deal with in the electronic scrap.
It sounds like you know how to help yourself, welcome to the forum, maybe you will add another favorite metal to your list.

An old leaf blower, with an inline rheostat, ie I used a dimmer switch, to control air speed works well in my brake drum forge.

I've already scavenged the leaf blower...now for the rheostat...bet I have one in my junk pile. I still need the brake drum, so, I'm a little ahead of myself.

Any local mechanic should have a drum he'll let you have. I picked up a couple that way, large ones from a truck, from the sole mechanic I go too.
