Name: Matthew Oja
***: Male
Age: 38
Location: Northeastern Minnesota (Soudan, Minnesota)
Hobbies: Just about anything to do with anything that has a motor, fixing and rebuilding vast array of things or learning how they work, building and fabricating contraptions, collecting old stuff, collecting rocks and minerals
Interests: Hobbies/ interests one in the same
How long have I been refining: Have not yet but would like to learn how/ whats involved
What am I looking to get out of this community: Maybe learn what all is involved in this or some valuable insight or knowledge
How did I discover this site: I was just searching the internet about gold refining and checking out different sites and reading some parts of forums out there and i saw this site was mentioned more than once so I decided to check it out. I got interested in the subject a quite a few years back. I would be going threw random things that would have been my grandfathers and great grandfathers, and I would keep finding different rocks and minerals one or both of them had put in all random places. That got me interested in them, some of them were very interesting looking I thought and was also made me curious what they were doing with them. They both had worked in the mine, soudan, home of minnesotas first iron mine and has the best iron ore out there came from it.(closed in 65) Some of these dont look all that special to some really neat looking specimens of specular hemetite, quarts, pyrite, etc. Some of them were a combination of hemetite, quarts, and little gold looking spots amongst the quartzs and that had sparked interest in gold and others. I had also found a bit of old tore apart electronics in the old sauna,my dad worked w electronics in air force and for control data in the 70s and 80s. I started to notice the gold on some of these old boards that have been just about been out in the weather for the building was in rough shape lets say, and started disassembling these early 70s circut boards and ended up with a small pile of gold. And that has made the curiousity greater on what goes into refining.

Welcome to the forum Matthew. If you are interested in refining, this is the place to learn. There is also a Youtuber out there by the name of Sreetips. He is very knowledgeable and has some very good videos. As to the rock specimens you have found that belonged to you dad and grand dad, they say that gold rides an iron horse. Meaning you are likely to find deposits of gold where you find iron especially where there is quartz involved. If you follow the rules here, and try to ask intelligent questions, you will find a wealth of knowledge here about gold, refining, and old electronics. Good luck and take care my friend.

S of bisulphite or SO2 is +4, going to +6 on reduction (or precipitation) hence action is -2. Required also correct potential between reductant and oxidizer.
CO2 does not have that ability.
Formic acid can also turn to CO2, thus giving 2 electrons
