Hello all, my name is Dave and I live in Bethlehem Pennsylvania and have just stumbled upon several early 70's computer boards. I have been gold prospecting (yes with a pan and shovel) for several years now with my son and have started to accumulate a bit of placer gold. When I saw these boards for the first time I started looking at other ways to get gold other then the stream. I know I have alot to learn as I have just scratched the surface of this forum. I was wondering if there is anyone near me that might show me some of the basics, I plan on getting Steve's DVD set when I can. Times are a bit tough now and I like others, need some help to get through the Holidays. Thank you all for your time. Dave

Evning Dave. Welcome and hope you learn as much as I'm still digging through.
I'm Scott, A.K.A BS. Yes, my intiials are BSR so. I'm up here in Denver, Pa. About 2-3 hours from you I'd guess. 1st find Hooke's book and begin the journey. it's free here somewhere. You just have to look.
Next, goto the board index and read through types of PM scrap as well as Where to find scrap. These are extremely timely to read through but will help you the fastest at finding that shinny stuff dreams are made of.
Good luck with what you seak.
O... 611scrap...do a search on google. I think it's up around you. They'll buy/ sell anything "Escrap" for quick $$ it'll work but not good pricing. Before finding the forum, I took a load of really crappy scrap there as room and $$ was short. Wont go there again unless I can make a good deal to buy from there.

Dave,

Welcome! You'll find a great deal of knowledge here. Hoke's book is definetely a highlight. In fact, the members will insist upon your reading it. You'll find that it is easy to read and prepares you for the terminology of the board. Look in my signature and you'll find Palladium's (one of our illustrious members) link to a PDF of the entire book.

Hi!
Wecome to our forum.
We installed a huge inground swimming pool this year at the neww home of the man who makes the jiuce drink called "Calipso". He bought $350,000 worth the stone to do the outside of the house, the walls around the pool and the dool deck. The pool deck stone is a sandstone that is quarried in pennsylvania!
I began thinking that there are people from Pa. that are panning gold there. also. the mountains there were like the rockies long ago but they have been worn down to what they are today. The sandstone, I presume, was formed from debris?
We went back there to install the pool cover and anchors, I had to drill about eighty one inch diameter holes for anchors. I drilled an inch and a half to the bottom of the sandstone collected the dust in a cashew can before drilling farther into the concrete.
I want to process this ore to see if it contains any gold content. It would be cool if it did, per-haps it would be helpfull for members like yourself in finding more.
If anyone wants a sample to play with, give me a holler. I'm searching for info on sandstones from the area.

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I will read Hoke's book to help me learn. I did look at that 611scrap site before. The only thing that worries me is that these boards are not the same as the newer ones (probley thicker gold I am guessing) I don't want to be kicking myself for selling them and getting a bad deal.
Gold prospecting is like Gold refining in that you just can't learn how to do it in a day. As far as the sandstone containing gold there is an old saying "Gold is where you find it" All the gold that I have found in Pennsylvania is what is called placer gold,(pronounced plasser) meaning gold that was deposited here by glaciers millions of years ago. Hard rock mining is where you dig in the bedrock and extract the ore from a mountian and refine it to get the gold. It is doubtfull that the sandstone will contain any gold but if you want me to process it I can try a sample. I have found gold under 100 minus mesh.
Again thank you all for your time. Dave
