Howdy, Chemapprentice here, Friends call me D.J., And I am pleased to join such a open community.

I am eager to learn the ways of this trade as well as the chemical specifities that come with the process, hence the nickname. I am a carpenter by trade, Scientist by hobby, and mechanic by necessity 😆 I thoroughly enjoy pushing myself into new avenues to keep my mental curiosity young as possible, I couldn’t imagine just building houses all my life, so I will put as much effort into learning this trade as the ones prior. I always have a keen ear for old-age knowledge and will receive all comments and any scrutiny with the understanding they intend on the utmost concern and diligence of all our fellow tradesmen. I have already learned much from here and I hope in the years to come to give back to this platform in every way that I can, I wish everyone reading this they have as much fun as I know I will learning something new as well as a safe and prosperous future ahead, knowing it will happen with hard work and help from others as I’ve found here, Glad to be here! Until we meet in a future thread GRF members! 👋

Hello DJ,
This is a learning process, with a few dangers, gold fever being one of the first to deal with, some people get the fever so bad, that they have a terrible time beginning to learn and soon either poison themselves jumping in before gaining an understanding or they give up in frustration.

With common sense and spending fun time studying and discovery (and with the gold fever held under control as much as possible) You will find this a fascinating science, and well worth skills in life to learn, maybe more important in times like these.
Welcome to the forum, I think you are going to have a fun time learning and sharing with members here.

Hi
firstly, I must warn you - refining is very addictive hobby :) if you are interested in chemistry and hobby experimenting, it will hold you for a long time :)

Have fun, but also stay safe - this is even more important. Feel free to ask about anything, but firstly search keywords here on the forum. There is more than 95% probability that your answer was asked before by somebody else.

And from the start, do not try to invent your own procedures and stick to well known and working ones. In this trade, shortcuts do not pay off. Many YouTube videos are trying to be appealing, but unhealthy portion of them is misleading and even dangerous when replicated. Aside of reading Tutorials section and Hoke, YouTube channel sreetips have excellent content covering recovery from various scrap materials. It is a very good visual learning tool, and he is very strict about procedures and safety measures.
