so i was cleaning out a bucket of stuff i had depopulated from some boards this evening and came across a flattish silver looking disc, with two ears. the color of the metal looked similar to silver, so i tore it apart and found another tiny disc dull silver on one side and striped silver polished on the other with a tiny chip on top. I tested the top part of the dome, and i am hoping i read it right and confirmed .800 silver. Same on the bottom piece of the large part. The small disc i dont dare to test it, i dont want to ruin it. The picture showing is a similar one but smaller than the original, and not the same metal. The pore picture of the tiny disc is the best i could do. any help would be appreciated.

thanks
tim

What you've got there is a transistor in a TO3 package.
Your silver is likely kovar or Ni plated copper (but only the very old ones had this).

Some of the older TO3 transistors were gold plated but the yield was on the lower range.

Toss it to the garbage, and do your homework.

Its hard to do the homework if you dont know what it is called in the first place. But thanks for the info anyways

If something has numbers on it, then you google those numbers and usually google will tell you what that thing is called.
