the last one (18k) looks a bit weird. never saw a "positive hallmark" on true gold, only on casted fake. i could be wrong of course. the 14 carat items seem to be solid gold.

I've been offered a ring that is marked 10kt mi. I didn't find a reference to the "mi" designation using Google or the forum's search.

Can anyone tell me what that means?

It tests 10k and I filed a notch in it before testing. It doesn't appear plated. I'm ready to buy it but wanted to make sure I'm not making a mistake.

Thanks!

You must do ALL the proper testing before making any decision!

I've seen beautiful charms marked "14K ITALY" that was brass!

At times, I've also seen some "strange" hallmarks,

I've also purchased rings with initials, like a 10K a bought a couple of weeks ago with the letters "UTC". After thorough testing, I bought it.
If the items in question have stones, especially clear ones, test for diamonds. If the stone is genuine, then you most likely have karat gold.
But, again, spend the time to properly test for karat gold!

The last I would say is 18ct plated, it's not easy telling form the pictures. Is it possible to take pictures without camera flash?
It looks like they are brooches, is this correct?
My first step would be file the back of them and test with a 9ct acid bottle test. Are they just metal or do they have stones mounted aswell? sometimes the stones are a giveaway.
