You must do ALL the proper testing before making any decision!
I've seen beautiful charms marked "14K ITALY" that was brass!

At times, I've also seen some "strange" hallmarks,

I've also purchased rings with initials, like a 10K a bought a couple of weeks ago with the letters "UTC". After thorough testing, I bought it.
If the items in question have stones, especially clear ones, test for diamonds. If the stone is genuine, then you most likely have karat gold.
But, again, spend the time to properly test for karat gold!
