Hi,

I'm sure i've seen a reference to these somewhere on the forum but I just can't find it now.

I have about 10Kg of header pins removed from various types of plug in cards and motherboards.
They were removed with a heatgun and most include the plastic surround.

My main worry is that they have solder attached.

I would normally just use 50/50 Nitric/Water on pins but if I did this with the solder attached, what kind of problems can I expect?

Kind regards
Buzz

Hi Buzz,
Youre right, the excess solder can be a problem, but when dealing with header pins theres usually not enough solder to worry about it.If you feel there is enough to gum up the solution, then here is a trick the next time you remove them. This will need to be done with some type of plyers or hemostats. After you've heated the solder enough for it to melt, simply remove them, and before it can solidify tap it on a cookie sheet.Obviously it needs to be a pan you don't intend on using again.Im sure you know that most of the molten solder will just fall off.I hope this helps.
