Welcome to the forum.
The reason you are warned is once you dissolve metals in an acid you will have created toxic chemicals and fumes that can and will kill you if not treated with proper safety measures.
Please study and present your plan for us to review before you do anything.

Martijn.
oh my gosh I work , I use drain cleaners all people know how to use a drain cleaner , the salts of base metals like copper brass iron zinc alluminium etc. are not dangerous, and me I don use cyanide and mercury because 1 .of low yield and 2. because are messy
You don't think you exaggerated with this safety advice? I use a oxygen torch this is not dangerous? maybe you wanna learn me how to use the torch Muhhhhhahhahhha

Real safety advice need a person who use mercury and cyanide this is the real danger in precious metals refining not using of a simple drain cleaner rust removal and fertilizer

All salts of Copper are toxic and many other salts too.
Change you attitude or you might find your stay here short.

You are not quite on track, many use Cyanide because it is the best way to leach Gold and other PMs when they are in low concentration or plating.
And when used properly in a safely set up environment it is perfectly safe, drain cleaners on the other hand can cause severe burns.
Your attitude towards chemical are lacking in many respects so i urge you to read what we gave to you in earlier posts.
After Hokes and the links have been studied you may be ready to start refining.

hahahaha even Hokes says after you clean tin from plated scrap with HCl acid you must wash the plated stuff ,,EVEN DONT HAVE A SOUR TASTE,, this mean you can taste chemicals
For your knowledge the chemistry is not a exact standardised science(this is the reason they apply term APROX. on glassware ), and in many cases when you study try to make synthesis to get patents you must improve and apply to alchemy and taste of some ordinary chemicals (acids, bases, salts, etc) like drain cleaners and others is not a dangerous operation , this is the reason Hoke apply at this advice to taste the chemicals. AND BECAUSE SHE WAS A PROFESSIONAL CHEMIST WE MUST FOLLOW HER ADVICES not a advice given by a amatour gold recover .
Read where the words are cut with a line,

Read where the words are cut with a line,
Hokes book was written in the 1930s and 40s and has some of the bad habits of old in them.
This is not acceptable today. Which version of Hoke do you read?
The one we have in here has been redacted to warn about dangerous practices.

At any macro level Chemistry and Physics today is very precise and reliable.
In the nano level we encounter quantum effects with the uncertainties it brings with it.
Nothing we have to worry about.

You also have analytical glassware which is precise.
But most glassware is mass produced and has not been calibrated.
Alchemy is not accepted in here, there is no philosophers stone to turn Lead to Gold.
Precision is important so if you mean chemistry say chemistry.
STOP talking about tasting chemicals.
And NO more Alchemy!!

What you said is wrong from one side and very dangerous from the other, chemistry is a science, a not forgiving one i would add. In my opinion some severe warning should be given to this member
